Even though it has been only 19 months since the release of the PlayStation 4, there is a mysterious job opening at Sony for a “Senior Game Programmer” and it makes us wonder if it is for a new PlayStation 5.

The job description is a follows:

“We have an exciting opportunity at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (PlayStation). We seek a senior game programmer to assist us in developing a game used for R&D purposes related to our next generation gaming system. For someone passionate about gaming this is a very rare opportunity. After reviewing the below job profile, if this is you, please apply! “

This by no means indicate that the next generation of consoles is going to hit the store soon, this might just be the initial stages of development. This is a good thing, since we have seen many times in the past that games have been downgraded because of the simple fact that even the current generation of gaming consoles are not capable of handling 60 FPS at 1080p. Passionate, hardcore gamers don’t find that amusing since the industry is now moving toward 4K and 5K resolutions.
